John P. Higgins, P.E. founded Artisan Engineering, PC in 2003. As Principal Engineer and President, he has been responsible for structural engineering and management of design for many projects throughout New England. John’s ability to provide balanced experience in design and constructability with commercial, institutional, industrial, residential, and specialty engineering projects has led to many long lasting client relationships.

JohnJohn received his Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering from the University of Vermont. In 1999, John was recognized by the American Society of Engineers as the Vermont Chapter Young Engineer of the Year, and subsequently recognized by the collective Engineering Associations in the State as the Vermont Young Engineer of the Year.

In 2003, John presented to the Structural Engineer’s Association a program titled “Design of Heavy Timber Truss Connections” in Portland, Maine.

In 2011 John presented to the Vermont Department of Public Safety, “Snow Loads on Roofs: an Introduction to Snow Loading, Drifting and Field Guide to Evaluating Conditions.”

John’s experience includes most types of building materials including: structural steel, concrete, masonry, conventional wood framing, heavy timber construction, manufactured lumber products, stress skin panels, aluminum and light gage steel framing.

John belongs to and is active in the following technical societies; Structural Engineers Association of Vermont, Founding Member; American Society of Civil Engineers, Professional Member, Past Section Director; American Welding Society, Associate Member; American Institute of Steel Construction, Professional Member.

John is a Registered Professional Engineer, recognized by the following states; Vermont, Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New York, Connecticut, Pennsylvania, and Idaho.
